THIBODAUX, La. –
The Nicholls baseball team wanted to close out the 2012 Colonel Round Robin on Sunday on a good note, but the Stony Brook Seawolves claimed their fourth win of the weekend defeating the Colonels 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Thibodaux.

Nicholls' (2-5) offense was held virtually ineffective on the day, as the Colonels were only able to muster one run on two hits, while Stony Brook (4-0) battered Nicholls starting pitcher Mike Wisecarver for four runs, two earned, on 11 hits in 6.2 innings of work in the loss.

Philip Lyons and Blake Bergeron were the only Colonels to garner hits in the contest, while four Seawolves finished the day with two hits each. Seawolves pitcher James Campbell went seven innings giving up a run on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Frankie Vanderka earned the save pitching two innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts.

The Colonels used the bottom of the first inning to strike first, after Matt Richard got on after getting pelted by a pitch, Phil Lyons used a sac bunt to advance Richard who then charged to third. Jeremy Hill stepped up to the plate and grounded into the fielder's choice to bring in Richard for the first score of the game.

Stony Brook used two singles to get runners on base in top of the second inning, but it looked like the Colonels would get out of the inning unscathed until an error by Ray Eureste allowed an unearned run to cross the plate to tie the score at 1-1.

Two more Nicholls errors in the top of the fourth led to two Stony Brook runs, as the Seawolves got three hits in the inning to aid their cause and go up 3-1. In the fifth the Seawolves were able to plate another run after a couple of bunt singles and a sacrifice fly to go up 4-1.

The Colonels and Seawolves each stranded four runners on base during the afternoon, while the Colonels were able to turn three double plays to thwart any potential scoring opportunities for Stony Brook.

The Colonels will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 28 hosting the LSU-Alexandria Generals at 6:30 p.m.
