Nicholls and Privateers Set To Clash on Tuesday

THIBODAUX, La. – With another weekend series in hand, the Nicholls baseball team heads to the banks of Lake Pontchartrain to square off with the UNO Privateers Tuesday night at Maestri Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and is the first of two games the teams will play as UNO will make the trip to Thibodaux a week from tomorrow. Nicholls won its second consecutive series, taking two from Southeastern over the weekend to begin Southland play with a 9-7 overall record and 2-1 record in the league.   
 
The Opening Pitch
The Colonels had their five-game win streak snapped against Southeastern on Sunday, but in the process won their second-straight weekend series... The five-game streak tied for the second longest for the club since 2003... Beau Faulk had a solid week hitting .533, slugging .733 with a .533 on base percentage... Phil Lyons has extended his hitting streak to 11 games and currently leads the team in batting with a .356 average... Nicholls is 5-6 when committing two or more errors and 1-3 when committing four or more.

UNO leads the all-time series with a 83-49 advantage, as they were one of the best programs in Louisiana for nearly two decades in being the first team to make the College World Series from the state... Nicholls won both meetings in 2011 between the two teams, 8-4 and 10-2.... Nicholls has won nine of the last 16 meetings, but at one point had lost five straight to the Privateers between 2007-09.

UNO is 8-6 on the year and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference... The Privateers are coming off of a 2-1 series loss to Valdosta State... UNO started the season 6-2, but have dropped four of their last six... In those losses they have been outscored 50-18... Cameron Wheeless leads the Privateers hitting .362 on the year with 17 hits, three doubles and two home runs... Jake Fabre has a 3.05 ERA for UNO, while Christian Cale has a 3-0 record... UNO is hitting .270 as a team while opponents are batting .284, while UNO pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.46, as compared to a 5.94 for visiting teams.
