HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team picked up its first conference victory of the season after edging Southeastern Louisiana, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

The Colonels (5-7, 1-4) bounced back after Catherine Gauthier and Marina Ljoshevska fell in the No. 3 doubles match, 8-1, by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, 8-2. Parija Maloo and Janna Leeuwerik teamed up to defeat Southeastern's Morgane Charpenne / Morgane Dadot in the No. 1 flight, while Marie Aubert and Andrea Pont Grau earned a victory in the No. 2 bout.

In singles, Southeastern (6-5, 0-3) evened the score at 1-1 after Dadot ousted Gauthier, 6-2, 6-0, but Nicholls came out on top in the next three matches to secure the victory. Maloo made easy work of SLU's Audrey Chelini in the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-1, and Aubert won her tenth consecutive singles match with a 7-5, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 position.

Pont Grau clinched the Colonels' first Southland win with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph in the No. 4 match. Leeuwerik came up short in the No. 5 position, falling 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 and Ljoshevska lost in the No. 6 flight, 6-2, 6-3.

The Colonels will return to action on Sunday when they host Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m.
