THIBODAUX – Despite the continued remarkable play of Parija Maloo and Marie Aubert, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to in-state foe Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

With the loss, Nicholls (5-8) had its two match winning streak snapped and falls to 4-4 in non –conference play this season. Louisiana Tech (9-3) extends its winning streak to four.

Maloo paired up with Janna Leeuwerik in No. 1 doubles, leading the Colonels to a 9-7 victory against Elne Barnard/ Anna Zurek. Playing shorthanded and forfeiting the No. 3 match, Nicholls needed to win the No. 2 position to claim the point, but Marie Ljoshesvka/ Aubert came up short, falling 8-2.

In singles, Maloo and Aubert improved their record on the year to 11-2 with straight set victories in the top of the lineup. Maloo ousted Laura Fernandez in the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-0, while Aubert notched her 11th consecutive victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph in the No. 2 slot against Vivian Dolle.

Unfortunately for the Colonels, the Lady Techsters proved to have a deeper lineup, winning the No. 3-5 matches, all in three sets. Gauthier took the first set at No. 3 against Barnard, 6-1, but dropped the next two 6-3, 6-0. In the No. 4 flight, Leeuwerik shutout undefeated Alena Erofeyeva, 6-0, before falling 6-3, 6-0 to drop the match. At No. 5, Ljoshevska almost came up with a win for the Colonels, falling 6-1, 2-6, 7-6.

The Colonels will have nearly two weeks off, returning to action on March 31 at McNeese State. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
