THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team took on nationally ranked Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at the Colonel Tennis Complex and was defeated by the No. 60 Ladyjacks, 5-2.

In doubles, SFA (10-2, 0-3) defeated the Colonels (2-5, 0-3) in all three matches. Parija Maloo and Jenna Leeuwerik fell 8-5 in the No. 1 match and Andrea Pont Grau/Catherine Gauthier was shutout by the 59th-ranked doubles team of Jithmie Jayawickrema/ Alina Shazhko. In the No. 3 match, Marina Ljoshevska/ Marie Aubert  lost 8-3.

Nicholls (2-5, 0-3) was able to take two points in singles action after giving up the doubles point. Maloo improved to 2-1 in conference with a 7-6, 1-1 victory against Terenza Bekerova in the No. 1 flight. In the No. 5 match, Aubert picked a win in retirement.

The men's and women's teams will return to action on Tuesday as they host USC Upstate. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
