THIBODAUX – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team played a pair of matches this week and came away with its third victory of the season, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-3, on the road on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Colonels came up short at home versus USC Upstate, falling by the same score, 4-3.

The women will return to action in Southland Conference play when they head to UTSA on Saturday. First serve against the Roadrunners is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday's match at Corpus Christi has been canceled.

Newcomers Parija Maloo and Marie Aubert continue to put up stellar numbers individually as both went undefeated for the Colonels in singles play. Maloo improved her yearly record to 8-1 in the No. 1 flight while Aubert sits at 7-2, with four wins at No. 4.

On Tuesday against USC Upstate (3-7), Maloo teamed up with Andrea Pont Grau for convincing 8-1 victory in the No. 1 match. In the No. 3 match, Janna Leeuwerik and Marina Ljoshveska took down their opponents, 8-5.

In singles, the Spartans rallied back to take four of the six matchups to edge the Colonels. Maloo and Aubert's victories were in straight sets.

At Louisiana-Lafayette (3-8), the Colonels once again took two of three in doubles to take a one-point lead, but Leeuwerik was able to join Maloo and Aubert in the win column in singles to give Nicholls its second road victory of the season.

In singles, Maloo and Aubert once again dominated the opposition, winning their matches in straight sets. Leeuwerik, playing at No. 5, dropped her first set but rallied back to win the next two, 6-2 and 6-4.
