BEAUMONT, Texas - After nearly two weeks off, the Nicholls State University women's tennis team returned to the courts this weekend to take on McNeese State and Lamar on the road in conference action and was defeated 5-2 by McNeese on Saturday and 4-3 by Lamar on Sunday.

As it has been for the entire season, the Colonels (5-10, 1-6) were led by the duo of Parija Maloo and Marie Aubert, who both went undefeated in singles to improve their records to 13-2. Maloo posts a 5-2 record in conference while Aubert is 7-0 and notched her 13th consecutive victory.

On Sunday against Lamar (8-8, 4-3), after the Colonels breezed through both doubles matches, winning each 8-1 to take a 1-0 lead, Maloo took the No. 1 match against Carolina Salas 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, while Aubert made easy work of Alicia Porte 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. However, with the Colonels playing shorthanded, Lamar won the No. 3—6 matches for the victory.

Against McNeese on Saturday, Maloo and Aubert claimed the top two matches, 6-3, 6-3, but the Colonels came up empty in the rest of the singles bouts. In doubles action, Maloo paired up with Janna Leeuwerik for an 8-3 triumph at No. 1, but after forfeiting the No. 3 match, the Colonels came up short in the decisive match, as Aubert and Catherine Gauthier fell 8-6.

The Colonels will return to the courts on Friday, April 6 when they take on Texas State. First serve in San Marcos, Texas is scheduled for 9 a.m.
