Marie Aubert finished the season with an 18-3 record in singles
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team wrapped up its spring season on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and was handed a 5-2 defeat in Southland Conference play.
The Colonels finish the season with an 8-13 record overall and 2-9 in conference. Corpus Christi improves to 15-4 and 8-3.
Claiming the two points for the Colonels were
Parija Maloo and
Marie Aubert, who each finish the season at 18-3 in singles. Maloo defeated Mirna Cicak in the No. 1 match 7-6, 1-2 after Cicak retired, improving her SLC record to 8-3.
In the No. 2 match, Aubert battled back from a 3-6 loss in the first set against Doris Kuselj to even up the score with a 6-1 victory in set two. In the tiebreaker, Aubert came away with a convincing 10-3 win to clinch the match. Aubert complete her freshman season with a 10-1 record in the Southland.
In doubles, the teams split the two matches that were played, but the Islanders took the point due to Nicholls forfeiting the No. 3 match because of an incomplete lineup. Maloo and
Janna Leeuwerik upped their No. 1 doubles record to 15-4 with an 8-4 victory against Cicak/ Kuselj; however, Aubert and
Catherine Gauthier fell by the same score in the No. 2 match.
For the rest of singles competition, all of the Islanders' victories came in straight sets.
