SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team dropped their third consecutive conference match, falling 6-1 to Texas State on Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Freshman Marie Aubert picked up the only point for the Colonels (5-11, 1-6), battling for a three-set victory against Rachel Baldree at No. 3. The win was Aubert's 14th straight in singles action and she maintains an undefeated record in conference at 8-0.

Playing shorthanded, Nicholls fell in both doubles matches as Texas State (12-4, 7-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead.  The Bobcats had little trouble in the matches, winning 8-2 and 8-3.

With the point via forfeit in the No. 6 match, Texas State clinched the match with victories in the No. 5 and No. 4 bouts. Catherine Gauthier was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Marina Perez and Marina Ljoshevska fell 6-2, 6-1 to Gabriela Rojas.

After Janna Leeuwerik came up short in the No. 2 match, Aubert prevented the shutout with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win. In the final match of the day, Parija Maloo saw her run of five consecutive victories come to an end as she was ousted by Jessica Kahts 6-4, 7-6. Maloo and Kahts now have an identical 13-3 record in No. 1 singles, which is tops in the Southland.

The Colonels will return to action on Tuesday, April 10, when they head to Alcorn State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
