Ray Named NFCA All-Region Second Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2012 NFCA Division I All-Region teams on Thursday, with Nicholls State University senior third baseman Ashley Ray earning All-South Region Second Team for the second time in as many seasons.

With the honor, Ray will be eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America teams, which will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 30, on NFCA.org.  Ray was one of two players from the Southland to be named all-region, joining Texas State's Chandler Hall, who received All-Central Second Team honors.

In her second season with the Red and Grey, Ray led the Colonel offense with seven home runs, 29 RBIs and was eighth in the Southland with a .350 batting average. She was second on the team in hits with 43 and led the team with a .602 slugging percentage. In the Southland rankings, Ray proved to be one of the top hitters in the league, finishing in the top 10 in eight offensive categories en route to garnering second-team All-Southland.

After carrying a program-tying 14-game hitting streak into the 2012 campaign, Ray went on to set the record at 16 games which included a perfect 3-for-3 day with two homers in the season opener against Northern Illinois. Ray's seven home runs on the year gave her 24 for her career, putting her at third on the Nicholls all-time list after just two seasons.
