Republican Congressman Steve Scalise will wear a Nicholls uniform at the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity June 28
THIBODAUX, La. – The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity will be held at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. June 28, and Republican Congressman Steve Scalise (LA-1) will wear a Nicholls baseball uniform as a member of the GOP team.
“We are honored that Congressman Scalise has chosen to wear the red and gray and represent us in the game this year,” head baseball coach
Seth Thibodeaux said.
The State of Louisiana will have three representatives for the annual game this year, as Scalise is one of two members of the Republican squad.
“Nicholls State has a history of excellence both on and off the field, and I am proud to carry on that tradition in Washington, D.C. by wearing a Colonels jersey at this year's Congressional baseball game” Scalise said. “I'm proud to represent Southeast Louisiana in Congress and will continue fighting for our state in DC.”
Scalise represents the First District of Louisiana, which covers the Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Jefferson, Orleans and St. Charles Parishes. Scalise was first elected to Congress in a special election in May of 2008, and was re-elected in November of 2008 and again in November of 2010.
The Annual Congressional Baseball Game pits House and Senate Democrats against their Republican counterparts. First held in 1909, there have been 72 meetings between the two sides, with the GOP holding a 38-35-1 all-time record. Throughout its history, the game has seen periodic interruptions due to events such as the Great Depression and World War II. The game has been played at least once every summer since 1962. All money raised from the game benefits the Washington Literacy Council and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.
