THIBODAUX, La. – With the 175th pick on Tuesday, Nicholls State University senior left-handed pitcher Brad Delatte was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Delatte is the first player drafted to the majors since Clint Dempster was selected in the 16th round by the Minnesota Twins in 2010, and is the second highest draftee ever in program history behind Scott Sanders who was selected 32nd overall in the first round of the 1990 draft.

The St. Amant product and Gonzales native finished his senior season with 31 appearances which was a career high, totaling over 96 appearances in his four-year career with the Colonels, 33 more than any Colonel in the last nine years. Delatte's 42 games finished are the most for any Nicholls baseball player in that same span by 17 games over the next closest player.

As a senior he finished the year with a 2.86 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched, with 35 strikeouts to finish with 114 for his career. He won seven games while at Nicholls with five career starts under his belt to go along with six total saves in 130.0 complete innings of work.
