Nicholls takes a two-match winning streak into Sunday's match against PVAMU
THIBODAUX, La. – With a two-match win streak heading into this week, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team plays host to the Prairie View A&M Panthers this Sunday at Noon at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
At 3-4 on the season, Nicholls is coming off of a 4-1 drubbing of ULM last Sunday, in a match that had the Colonels go up 3-0 before eventually winning 4-1. Nicholls got goals from

Lauren O'Brien and
Janelle Brandom.
With 18 as a team so far, the Colonels are third in the league in goals and goals per game with a 2.57 gpg average which is 29
th overall in the country in that category. Of those goals, 12 have been assisted on, sitting fourth in assists and assists per game with 1.71.
Individually, Valdespino is in the top ten in the Southland in six categories including being tied for fifth in goals (10), seventh in goals per game (0.57), third in shots (28) and shots per game (4.00), and fourth in points (10) and fifth in points per game (1.43).
Annie Newell is also ranked in five Southland categories, sitting sixth in points (9), tenth in points per game (1.29), tenth in goals (3), third in assists (3) and seventh in assists per game (.43).
The two also currently rank among some of the nation's best statistically, with Valdespino rated in the top 100 players in points per game, goals per game, goals, points and game-winning goals, with Newell in the top 150 in points per game, assists per game, assists and total points.
Coates, is 144
th in the country in total points as well with eight on the season.
The Prairie View Panthers are 1-6 on the season, coming off of a 5-1 loss to Southland foe Lamar last weekend. In all the Panthers have played three SLC schools this year already, falling 1-0 to Sam Houston State and 5-0 to McNeese State earlier this season. Their only win of the season was a 5-0 shutout of Texas College.
Nicholls is 2-0-1 against the Panthers, as Prairie View has yet to score a goal on the Colonels in any of their meetings. On August 27, 2006 in their first meeting, the Colonels set team records for the largest margin of victory and most goals scored in a match with their 8-0 win over PVAMU.
Nicholls also defeated the Panthers 4-0 last season in Thibodaux.
