Volleyball Set For Tilt against South Alabama

THIBODAUX, La. – After having to cancel the Bayou Invitational to open their home schedule, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday taking on the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile at 7 p.m.

Hurricane Isaac forced the cancellation of the tournament against CSU Bakersfield, Grambling, Jackson State and ULM over the weekend, with over a week since the team last played in the Missouri Tiger Invitational.

Nicholls is 15-17 all-time against South Alabama, winning the last three straight. Although the two teams have split the last six meetings, the Colonels have won six of the last ten overall against USA. The Colonels are 4-8 in Jag Gym, while 5-3 in Thibodaux.

South Alabama is under a new head coach this season, hiring Amy Hendrichovsky who was an assistant at North Alabama last year. The Jaguars finished the year 11-17 and 6-10 in the Sun Belt, good enough for fourth place in the East Division.

Of their three starters returning, junior libero Jenna Hassell and senior outside hitter Olivia Mohler lead the way as Hassell was seventh in the Sun Belt in digs last season, while Mohler finished third on the team in kills with 232 and kills per set with 2.34.

In last year's meeting, Nicholls won in four sets using a total team effort while holding USA to .101 hitting on 31 errors. Jennifer Brandt, Jessica Addicks and Sarah Terry combined for 24 kills, as Jennifer Dunn had 16 digs.
