Spencer Valdespino had five shots for the Colonels on Sunday vs Lamar
Final Stats THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision to the Lamar Lady Cardinals Sunday afternoon in Beaumont.
With the loss the Colonels fall to 5-7 on the year and 0-2 in the Southland Conference, while Lamar improves to 5-7-1 and 1-1 in the league.
Nicholls got a much stronger offensive effort that it did against Sam Houston State on Friday, firing off 14 shots on the afternoon with six shots on goal.
Spencer Valdespino led the team with five shots on the day and two shots on goal, followed by
Annie Newell's three.
Starting goalkeeper
Amanda Boylson (1-6) had to deal with a Lamar attack that led the conference in shots and the home team didn't disappoint, finishing the match with 22 shots and 12 shots on goal. Boylson stopped a season-high 11 shots on the day as 13 different Lady Cardinal players had at least one shot on the day.
The game winning goal for Lamar came in the 21st minute, when Kimmy Albeno had a shot that bounced off of a Nicholls defender come right back to her, that she was able to use to get a shot from point-blank range past Boylson for the game's only score.
After only registering four shots in the first period, the Colonels roared back in the second earning ten shots and four shots on goal.
The Colonels return home on Friday for the start of a three-match home stand, beginning with the McNeese State Cowgirls at 4 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
