THIBODAUX, La. – After playing their first six matches away from Thibodaux, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team plays its first home match of the season on Sunday, hosting the ULM Warhawks at 1 p.m. at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
 
The Colonels are coming off of a 6-0 drubbing of Southern in Baton Rouge on Wednesday. It was the fifth shutout the team has had against the Jaguars, and ties the second-largest margin of victory over an opponent in program history.
 
With 14 goals on the season, Nicholls is only one of five teams in the Southland Conference with more than ten goals on the year just six games in. The team is third in points with 37, tied with Southeastern, and third in overall goals scored.
 
Individually, freshman Spencer Valdespino and junior Annie Newell are among some of the league's best offensively, raking in the top ten in multiple categories. Both are tied for the team lead in goals with three and points with seven.
 
With just one goal heading into this week's matches, her performance this week placed Valdespino third in the league in shots (24) and shots per game (4.00) and eighth in points (7).
 
Newell is also tied for seventh in goals with Valdespino, eighth in points, tied for tenth in points per game with 1.17 and eighth in goals per game with a .50 average.
 
The goalie tandem of Amanda Boylson and Haley Golden are among the goalie leaders in the Southland, as Golden is tied for first in the league in GAA with .50, eighth in save percentage at .800, third in shutouts and second in shutouts per game. Boylson is tied for fourth in the league in saves with 21 on the year and third in saves per game averaging 5.25 a match.

The history between Nicholls and ULM dates back to 1999 when the Warhawks were members of the Southland before departing for the Sun Belt in 2006. Nicholls is 3-11-2 against ULM all time, with two wins coming in Thibodaux. Both settled for a 1-1 tie in last year's meeting that went into two overtimes, as three of the last four matches have seen extra minutes.
