Alisha Allen led Nicholls with 18 points and seven rebounds against ORU
Final Stats TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts opened the second half with a 29-8 run as the Golden Eagles avenged an earlier loss to the Nicholls State University women's basketball team, handing the Colonels a 84-56 loss at the Mabee Center Thursday night.
With the loss, Nicholls falls to 12-8 overall and 4-5 in Southland play. The Colonels have lost four of their last five contests and three straight on the road. Oral Roberts improves to 9-10 and 6-3 in conference.
Alisha Allen led Nicholls in the losing effort, finishing with a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Allen, who ranks second on the Colonels' all-time scoring list, has led Nicholls in scoring 10 times this season.
Jasmine Scott, who came off the bench after starting the last six games, scored 14 points and
Jenny Nash added 10.
The Colonels were held to a season conference-low in field goal percentage, making only 10 shots in each half as they finished at a 36.4 percent clip. After making nine 3-pointers in its last outing, Nicholls struggled from behind the arc, connecting on 2-of-16.
Nicholls never led in the game, and tied it only once in the early going. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 12-2 lead before Nicholls answered with a 10-run, capped on a field goal by Scott who scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half.
Oral Roberts took advantage of two Colonel turnovers to score the game's next six points. Both teams had trouble taking care of the ball as Nicholls finished with a season-high 31 turnovers and ORU had 24.
Leading 34-27 at the break, ORU went on a scoring barrage in the first eight minutes of the second period, lighting up the scoreboard for 29 points as they took a 63-35 lead. Nicholls never came within 20 for the rest of the way.
ORU shot 53.2 percent and had four scorers in double figures. Kevi Luper led the Golden Eagles with 22 points while Jaci Bingham had 20 points and seven assists.
Nicholls will return to action on Saturday against Central Arkansas. Tipoff in Conway is scheduled for 2 pm.
