Jasmine Scott is leading the Colonels in rebounding with 5.5 per game
THIBODAUX, La. – After splitting its first two conference games at home, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will hit the road for its next four contests, starting Monday with an in-state battle at McNeese State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
KNSU 91.5 FM, a part of the Colonel Sports Radio Network, will broadcast the game live. For listeners out of the area, the game can be heard on Colonels All-Access.
Nicholls (9-4, 1-1) is coming off a 69-66 win over conference newcomer Oral Roberts on Saturday. Senior
Alisha Allen was one of three Colonels to score in double figures, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds. Allen ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (14.6 ppg) and is three points shy of moving into second place on the career scoring list, trailing Katherine Plummer (1,316).
KK Babin scored nine points in the win and is 11th in the Southland in scoring at 12.2 ppg. Babin made three 3-pointers in the first half and ranks third in the SC in 3-point percentage (.418) and 3-pointers made (1.8).
As a team, the Colonels are shooting .430 from the field and averaging 65.1 points per game. Nicholls is surrendering 62.8 points a game, which is fourth in the league.
McNeese (6-7, 1-1) also split its opening weekend in conference play, but played on the road, defeating Stephen F. Austin, 74-57, after falling at Northwestern State, 64-62.
The Cowgirls are led by twins Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett, who score a combined 31.8 points per game. Ashlyn is fifth in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg) with Caitlyn ranking seventh (14.5).
Last season, the Cowgirls sweep the season-series against the Colonels en route to claiming the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. McNeese went on to take the title to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
McNeese has dominated the all-time series, holding a 52-12 advantage. The Cowgirls have one the last 10 games since they were swept in the 2006-07 season.
