Nicholls will face 2012 National Champion Baylor on Thursday night in Waco, Texas
THIBODAUX, La. – After a convincing 33-point victory in their season opener, the Nicholls women's basketball team will look to upset national powerhouse No. 9 Baylor at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at the Ferrell Center.
The game will be broadcast live on KNSU 91.5 FM. Pregame coverage will start at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Nicholls heads into the matchup 1-0 after its 91-58 drubbing of NAIA Southern University at New Orleans. Sophomore
Emani White poured in a career-high 33 points in the win as Nicholls led the entire game. White matched her previous career-best of 20 points in the first half alone and finished the game with six 3-pointers, five assists and four steals.
Also leading the Colonels in scoring were
KK Babin and
Marina Lilly, who each scored 14 points. Lilly, a freshman from Dallas, came up a rebound shy of a double-double in her Colonel debut as Nicholls dominated on the glass against the Lady Knights with a 55-35 advantage. Over the past two seasons, Nicholls is 11-0 when outrebounding the opposition.
While Nicholls played nearly flawless against SUNO, the Colonels will have to play even better to compete with nationally-ranked Baylor. The Lady Bears, who have the nation's longest home winning streak at 58 games, blew out Grambling in their opener, 110-55. Preseason All-American Odyssey Sims led Baylor with 28 points, five steals and four assists.
Nicholls and Baylor have met only one other time previously as the Lady Bears defeated Nicholls 93-44 on Nov. 22, 2003.
Following Thursday night's game, Nicholls will return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at South Alabama. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
