THIBODAUX, La.  –
The Nicholls State University women's basketball team hung tough early against No. 9 Baylor but the Lady Bears shot 60 percent to reach 100 points for the second straight game as Nicholls was defeated 111-58 Thursday night at the Ferrell Center.

Nicholls falls to 1-1 on the season while Baylor improves to 2-0 and extends its home winning streak to 59 games.

Freshman Marina Lilly followed up her solid Colonel debut with another strong outing, scoring 12 of her team-high 14 points in the second half to match her career high. Lilly also finished with a team-high four rebounds, as did sophomore Emani White who added 12 points. Jenny Nash and KK Babin chipped in with nine points each.

Baylor looked as good as advertised, shooting 9 of 21 from 3-point range and dominated the glass with a 44-23 advantage. Nina Davis came off the bench to lead Baylor with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Odyssey Sims finished with 24 points.

The Colonels were held to 35.2 percent from the field and only made 5 of 21 from behind the arc. The Colonels had 20-plus turnovers for the second time in as many games, finishing with 21.

White scored the Colonels' first eight points, knocking down two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws to give Nicholls an early 8-6 lead. Despite White's scoring effort in the opening minutes, turnovers led to a number of easy points for the Lady Bears. The Colonels had five miscues before the first media timeout as Baylor held a 13-8 lead.

After Baylor pushed its lead to 20-10, Nash sank her first of two 3-pointers on the night to trim the deficit back to single digits. But the Lady Bears answered with an 18-3 run over the next six minutes and went into the break up 54-29.

In the second half, Lilly found ways to score inside against the much bigger Lady Bears, but Baylor continued to shoot the lights out. Baylor shot just under 56 percent in the second period, with Davis doing most of the damage with 19 points.

Nicholls will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at South Alabama. Tipoff in Mobile is scheduled for 6 p.m.
