Nicholls Women’s Basketball to Host SWAC Champion Texas Southern

THIBODAUX, La.  – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will play its second home game of the season as the Colonels welcome 2012-13 SWAC regular season champion Texas Southern to Stopher Gym for Saturday afternoon bout at 2 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage set to start at approximately 1:45 p.m. A live video stream will also be available on Colonels All-Access.

Nicholls (2-1) is coming off a 68-60 road win against South Alabama where the Colonels came up one 3-pointer shy of matching their single-game record of 14. Only six Colonels scored in the win, led by 26 points from sophomore Emani White and 23 points from senior KK Babin.

After three games, White leads the Colonels in scoring, averaging 23.7 points on 42.2 percent shooting. White also has a team-high 11 3-pointers, followed by Babin with 10. Babin, who moved into sixth place on the Colonel all-time scoring list with 1,213 career points, is averaging 15.3 points while freshman Marina Lilly rounds out the leaders with 11.3 points.

As a team, Nicholls is scoring just over 72 points per game with most of the points coming behind the arc. The Colonels have made 26 3-pointers in three games, shooting at a 39.4 percent clip.

Texas Southern (3-1), which won 20 games last season, has looked impressive so far this season, picking up wins against Rice, Houston Baptist and McNeese State. The Lady Tigers will be looking for their first win versus the Colonels as Nicholls improved to 3-0 against the Lady Tigers with last season's 65-58 win in Houston.

Jazzmin Parker led TSU to a 71-55 win over McNeese in the Lady Tigers' last outing, scoring 35 points on 14 of 22 from the field. Parker, who has won back-to-back SWAC player of the week, is one of two players scoring in double figures as she leads the team with 28.0 points per game. Brianna Sidney is second in scoring at 14.5 points while Morgan Simmons leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game.

After Saturday's game, Nicholls will fly up to Alaska for the Thanksgiving break to play in the Great Alaskan Shootout, starting Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Georgetown. Tipoff against the Lady Hoyas is scheduled for 9 p.m. central.
