Sophomore Emani White led Nicholls with a career-high 33 points

Emani White scored a career-high 33 points to lead four Colonels in double figures as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team cruised past Southern University at New Orleans with a 91-58 victory at Stopher Gym on opening day.
White poured in 20 of her 33 in the first half as Nicholls had a commanding 47-20 lead at the break. The New Orleans native finished the day 8 of 15 from the field, 6 of 9 from behind the 3-point line and 11 of 13 at the free throw line.
All 10 players who saw action for the Colonels cracked the scoring column. Senior
KK Babin added 14 points including two 3-pointers while newcomers
Marina Lilly and
Shay Arnick had strong debuts, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively. Lilly had a team-high nine rebounds as Nicholls dominated on the glass, 55-35.
The Colonels finished the day shooting 40 percent from the field and were solid at the charity stripe, making 23 of 31 (.742). Nicholls made 8 of 21 from downtown and held SUNO (1-2) to 2 of 9.
The game was never much in doubt for the Colonels as they held SUNO scoreless over a nine minute stretch in the first half, using an 18-0 run to lead 29-6 with seven minutes until the intermission. Along with White's 20, Lilly tacked on 7 points and 4 rebounds in the opening stanza.
In the second half, Nicholls saw its largest lead of the day when
Taylor Morrison found Babin for a 3-ball at the 13:12 mark, giving the Colonels a 67-31 advantage. The Lady Knights were never able to get the deficit within 30 points the rest of the way.
Brandy Broome led SUNO with 20 points. The Lady Knights had 35 turnovers which led to 24 Colonel steals.
The Colonels return to the court on Nov. 14 when they head to Waco, Texas to take on No. 10 Baylor. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on KNSU 91.5 FM.
