Colonels to Host LA Tech on Monday Night

THIBODAUX, La.  – After coming up short in the Great Alaskan Shootout last week, the Nicholls women's basketball team will aim to snap a two-game skid as the Colonels host in-state rival Louisiana Tech Monday night at Stopher Gym.

Tipoff between the Colonels (3-3) and Lady Techsters (1-4) is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KNSU 91.5 FM and a live video stream is available on Colonels All-Access.

After its first four games, Nicholls posted a .420 shooting clip from the field but the rims in Alaska were unkind to the Colonels as back-to-back poor shooting performances dipped their percentage to .386 on the year. Following a season-low .313 field goal percentage in Game 1 against Georgetown which led to a 67-55 loss, Nicholls posted its second-worst shooting day of the season in its 74-64 loss to UC Riverside, finishing at .338.

While the Colonels have a 1-3 record in road/neutral games, Nicholls has continued its dominance at home with a 2-0 record. Since the beginning of the 2011-12 season, Nicholls has won 21 of 27 games at Stopher Gym and has a current seven-game winning streak.

Although Louisiana Tech has a 1-4 record on the year, the Colonels have never defeated the Lady Techsters as Nicholls is 0-15 in the all-time series. The last meeting came in the 2009-10 season when LA Tech blew out Nicholls in Thibodaux, 90-50.

The Colonels have been led on offense by sophomore guard Emani White and senior KK Babin. The duo combined for 70 of Nicholls' 119 points in Alaska, led by White's 47. White has had a tremendous start to her second season as a Colonel as she leads the Southland in scoring at 22.7 points per game. Babin is the only other Colonel to average double figures, scoring 12.3 points per game. Freshman Marina Lilly is third in scoring at 9.0, followed by junior Jenny Nash at 8.5

After dropping its first four games, LA Tech is coming off its first win - a 69-39 thumping of New Orleans. The Lady Techsters held UNO to an abysmal 24.1 percent from the field while JaQuan Jackson and Whitney Frazier matched the Lady Privateers point total with a combined 39 points.

Frazier leads LA Tech is scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.6) while Jackson is second in scoring at 15.8 points. As a team, the Lady Techsters are also shooting below 40 percent on the year, bringing a .374 clip to Thibodaux. They have struggled in 3-point shooting as well, making 22 of 83 (.265).

Following Monday night's game, Nicholls will have two weeks off for finals before taking on No. 11 Texas A&M on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
