Colonels Begin Final Road Swing of 2013 at No. 20 Texas A&M

THIBODAUX, La.  – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will close out the year with four games on the road, starting with a day game at No. 20 Texas A&M on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

The game between Nicholls (4-3) and the nationally ranked Aggies (6-3) can be listened to live on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m.

Nicholls is coming off arguably its biggest win in program history – an 80-78 triumph over Louisiana Tech – and will need to carry that momentum into College Station in order to pull off an upset. Texas A&M will be the second top 25 opponent for the Colonels as Nicholls lost earlier this season to No. 9 Baylor.

While Nicholls shot under 40 percent from the field in the win over the Lady Techsters, the Colonels were textbook from the free throw line, making 26 of 30 including their last 13 attempts. Nicholls also held a rebounding advantage for only the second time this season, with both occasions resulting in wins. In the last two seasons, the Colonels are 12-0 when outrebounding the opposition.

After the win over LA Tech, sophomore Emani White garnered her second Southland Player of the Week honor of the season and she currently ranks 18th in the NCAA in scoring at 22.6 points per game. White netted a game-high 22 points in the victory, leading four Colonels in double figures. Marina Lilly and Jenny Nash scored 14 each while Jasmine Scott tacked on 11. Lilly and Scott combined for 15 rebounds.

The Colonels could have issues on the glass against the Aggies, who feature a 6-foot-5 center, Karla Gilbert. Gilbert is one of two Aggies scoring in double figures (10.2 ppg) and leads the team with 9.7 rebounds. Texas A&M is also led in scoring by a sophomore as Courtney Walker is averaging 14.4 points per game.

Nicholls will continue its road swing with a pair of contests in Florida this weekend. The Colonels will face Bethune Cookman on Friday, Dec. 20, before playing Stetson on Saturday.
