Nicholls Football Retains Stubbs as Head Coach

THIBODAUX, La.  – Nicholls State University will retain head football coach Charlie Stubbs, athletic director Rob Bernardi announced Friday.

Stubbs, who led Nicholls to a 4-8 record this season, will be entering his fifth year at the helm of the Colonel football program.

In the 2013 campaign, Nicholls had one of its best starts in recent history which included its third win ever over an FBS program. The Colonels defeated Western Michigan for their first victory of the season before going on to win three of their next four games. Nicholls started off conference play with a win over rival Northwestern State, however, ended the year on a six-game losing streak.

In four seasons under Stubbs, Nicholls has posted a 10-35 overall record. Against FBS programs, Stubbs has led Nicholls to one win in 10 matchups.

In the classroom, the Colonels have had nine Southland All-Academic honorees in the last three years, including a conference-high five in 2012. This season, Jordan Hanberry became the first Colonel in program history to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors after being named first-team. With the accolade, Hanberry will be an automatic selection for the 2013 Southland All-Academic team which will be announced in early January.
