Final Stats HOUSTON, Texas. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was held to just six hits over the course of the game, while Houston Baptist scored three runs in the first two innings and got a grand slam in the fourth as the Huskies cruised to a 9-0 win over the Colonels Friday afternoon at Husky Field.
Houston Baptist scored all nine runs off of ten hits in the ballgame, with Jordan Foust's four-run bomb in the bottom of the fourth putting HBU up 7-0 at that point, getting its final two runs of the game in the eight to put it away. Nicholls had three costly errors in the contest, two of which allowed the Huskies to score in successive innings early to begin the onslaught.
Mike Suk took the loss on Friday after giving up seven runs, five earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
Zach Thiac came on in relief of Suk and pitched three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits with three strikeouts.
Jacob Rodrigue pitched the final inning giving up the final two runs of the game on two hits with a strikeout and only walk of the contest.
HBU's Tyler Hoelscher tossed eight innings of the shutout, giving up all six hits with a walk and three strikeouts while Ross Kennell came on in relief for the final inning and got the Colonels to go down in order to preserve the win.

Leo Vargas got the last hit for the Colonels coming off of the bench as Nicholls went down in order in three of the first five innings against the Huskies.
Lyons had the only extra-base hit for Nicholls with his double in the very first inning, as the Colonels had no stolen bases and got caught stealing once. The team had two opportunities to get on the board in the seventh and eighth innings with runners in scoring position, but the Colonels already had two outs in the seventh which ended in a ground out, with a double play with just one out in the eighth halting the momentum with a swinging strikeout to close the frame.
Game two of the series begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Husky Field in Houston.
