Marie Aubert won the No. 1 match against ASU 6-0, 6-0
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team played its first match in Thibodaux of the spring season and came away with a 6-1 win against Alcorn State Tuesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Nicholls (7-3) took two of the three matches in doubles, including an 8-0 victory by
Natalia Cardiff/
Emma Pitre in the No. 3 match.
Isla Brock/
Marie Aubert secured the point with an 8-5 win at No. 2, while
Rachel Howie/
Eva Castiglioni lost by a slim 8-7 margin in the top pairing.
Aubert, who received honorable mention in this week's SLC Player of the Week voting, had little trouble in the No. 1 match, shutting out Kersten Vanem 6-0, 6-0. Howie also picked up a shutout in her first set at No. 3 before winning 6-2.
For the rest of singles play, Cardiff earned a straight set win at No. 2, Brock took both of her sets 6-2 at No. 4 and Castiglioni won No. 5 6-2, 6-3. Pitre lost in the No. 6 match 6-2, 6-4.
Nicholls will have a quick turnaround, heading to Jackson State tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match.
