Colonel Men’s Tennis Ousted by Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team made the short trip to New Orleans to take on Tulane Thursday and was defeated 6-1 at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.

Nicholls drops to 7-8 on the year and has lost four of its last five. Tulane improves to 8-4 after going undefeated in its four-match homestand.

The Green Wave started off with a 1-0 lead, winning both completed doubles matches. Dmitry Kozionov/Jeoffrey Noblecourt were shutout in the No. 1 match and Nico Mertens/Evan Karatzas lost in the No. 2 match 8-4.

In singles play, Tulane cruised with five straight set victories, with Mertens preventing the shutout with a win at No. 3. Mertens took the first set against Joe Young 7-5 before closing out the match with a 6-2 win.

Nicholls returns to the court on March 24 at LSU. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
