Colonel Women’s Tennis Falls to Southeastern in Finale

HAMMOND, La.  – The Nicholls women's tennis team closed out the 2013 spring season with a 6-1 loss against Southeastern Louisiana, which clinched the Southland Conference regular season championship, Monday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Nicholls finishes the season at 7-16, while Southeastern ups its record to 18-2 and 8-1 in the Southland.

Playing shorthanded, Nicholls quickly surrendered the doubles point after Eva Castiglioni/Emma Pitre fell in the No. 2 match against Adriana Castillo/Renee Villarreal 8-4. SLU had already won the No. 3 match by default, so the one win gave the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead.

In singles, SLU won the No. 5 and 6 matches by default, needing only one victory to clinch the conference championship. The win came at the No. 2 spot as Castiglioni was held to just one point against Reginka Nychytailova.

After Isla Brock and Emma Pitre were defeated in the No. 3 and 4 matches, respectively, Marie Aubert prevented the shutout with a three-set win at No. 1. Aubert lost the first set 4-6 against Nastya Tokareva, but came back to win 6-4, 10-7 to improve her conference record to 5-1. Overall, Aubert finishes at 13-7, playing most of her matches at No. 1.
