BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls women's tennis team took on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday at the Thompson Family Center and was defeated 5-2.

Nicholls (8-14, 1-7) has lost its last six matches, with its season finale scheduled for April 15 at Southeastern Louisiana.

In doubles play, the Colonels' No. 1 duo of Natalia Cardiff/ Isla Brock came away with a 8-4 victory, but the Islanders (14-3, 6-2) won the other two matches to secure the point.

For singles, Marie Aubert and Cardiff continued their strong season, winning in straight sets in the No. 1 and 2 matches, respectively. Aubert improved to 13-7 on the year and 5-1 in the Southland with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Doris Kuselj, while Cardiff notched her 11th win by downing Maider Martin 6-2, 6-2. Cardiff has only lost once in Southland play as well, holding a 4-1 record.

In the remaining four matches, the Islanders stayed in contention for the Southland title by allowing more than two points in only one of the eight sets. The closest defeat for the Colonels was at No. 5, where Brock fell to 9-9 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 setback.
