LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team fell to McNeese State University in straight sets on Saturday afternoon in Lake Charles.
After a week off from action, the Colonels (7-13, 3-4 SLC) had hoped to rebound against the Cowgirls (10-12, 2-7 SLC), but were unable to come away with a victory.
McNeese took the first set 25-19. Nicholls fought back in the second, losing a close 25-22 set, but the Cowgirls cruised in the final set 25-13, sealing the victory.
Kaci Eaton led the Colonels both offensively and defensively, finishing with a team-high 15 kills and 15 digs.
Kalynn Egea added 11 digs, while
Kali Schwartz finished second in kills with six.
Ainsley Marroccoli had 19 assists in the match.
McNeese brought a balanced offensive attack, with four different players registering five or more kills. Kelly Graham led the Cowgirls in assists, with 27, while tree players contributed eight or more digs on the afternoon.
Nicholls will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Corpus Christi, Texas, before traveling to Houston for a matchup against conference newcomer Houston Baptist University.
