Nicholls Soccer to Face Lamar on Friday

BEAUMONT, Texas The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will head to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar University on Friday at 7 p.m.
 
The Colonels (6-5, 2-2 SLC) are coming off of a 3-1 win at Incarnate Word after Emily Werenskiold scored two late goals to seal the victory.
 
The Cardinals (3-6-1, 1-1-1 SLC) fell 2-1 in overtime against defending Southland Conference regular-season champion Stephen F. Austin on Friday, before a 1-1 tie with Houston Baptist on Sunday.
 
Nicholls is 1-6 against Lamar all-time with the Cardinals claiming a 2-1 victory in the most recent matchup between the programs last season.
 
The Colonels are led by Jess Coates who has a team-high five assists on the season. Emily Werenskiold is third on the team in goals (2) and second in assists (3).
 
Kimmy Albeno leads the Cardinals offensively with five goals and an assist, while Jannet Hernandez has a team-leading three assists and has notched two goals.
 
All three of Nicholls' goalkeepers saw action over the weekend with Taylor Mosley (3-5) and Josie Stiles (1-0) each playing a half against Abilene Christian and Haley Golden (1-0) claiming all 90 minutes against Incarnate Word. Mosley leads the team with 45 saves on the season, while allowing 17 goals. Golden has the highest save percentage on the squad at .833.
 
Bailey Fontenot will be in the net for Lamar, entering the game with 60 saves and 16 goals allowed on the year. She has a save percentage of .789 this season.
 
Katherine Kelly continues to be the backbone of the Nicholls defense, playing the most minutes of any Colonel in her freshman campaign (919).
 
The Colonels will take on Lamar University Friday before facing Southern University in Baton Rouge at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9.
