THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Sam Houston State University on Thursday night in Stopher Gymnasium.
 
The Colonels (5-11, 1-2 SLC) took the first set 25-23 and had a lead early in the second before a spirited Bearkat timeout changed the momentum.
 
Sam Houston (8-7, 1-1 SLC) called time before Head Coach Brenda Gray pulled the entire Bearkat squad out of the gym and into the hallway for a private discussion. Sam Houston came out with a new energy and won the set 25-22 before taking the next two sets 25-16 and 25-18.
 
Kaci Eaton led Nicholls with 13 kills while adding 14 digs on the night. Kalynn Egea had a team-leading 22 digs while Kali Schwartz had 11 kills and 12 digs.
 
Devene Wells-Gibson had 22 kills and 10 digs to lead the Bearkats. Claire Kilpatrick contributed a team-leading 25 digs in the game.
 
The Colonels will look to rebound against Lamar University at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Stopher Gymnasium.
