Nicholls and HBU Slated for Saturday Night Matchup on ESPN3

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University football team will square off against Houston Baptist for the first time in program history as the squads search for their first Soutlhand victory of the season on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. on ESPN3 at Husky Stadium.

ESPN3 is accessible online at WatchESPN.com and can be streamed on smartphones, tablets and television through the WatchESPN app. The game will also be aired via the Colonel Sports Radio Network, with coverage scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

With only four games remaining, Nicholls (0-8, 0-4 SLC) will be looking to avoid being only the second team in school history to go winless in a season. After dropping a 63-21 decision at home to Lamar last Saturday, the Colonels saw their losing streak extend to 14 games, which matches the program's longest. The Colonels struggled on both sides of the ball against Lamar as the team was held to a season-low 155 yards on offense while surrendering 691 yards on defense.

HBU (1-6, 0-4 SLC), playing in its first official season, is also coming off a loss after falling to Stephen F. Austin at home, 59-27. The Huskies carry a four-game losing streak into the matchup, with all four losses coming in conference.

Nicholls heads into Saturday's game averaging 254.2 yards on offense, ranking 10th in the Southland just behind HBU (308.9 ypg). Quarterback Kalen Henderson leads the team with 786 yards passing with two touchdowns and four interceptions. In the backfield, running back Michael Henry ranks fourth in league in rushing in conference games, averaging 102.5 yards per contest.

On defense, linebacker Davin Bovie continues to be one of the league's top tacklers with 9.2 stops per game. Bovie ranks sixth in the FCS in solo tackles, averaging 6.5 per game. Also in the loss last week, Nicholls came up with three interceptions, with two by Josh Singleton.

HBU is led on offense by quarterback Jonathan Fleming and running back B.J. Kelly. Fleming has completed 55 percent of his passes for 808 yards and nine touchdowns, while Kelly is averaging 5.0 yards per carry with 444 yards and two scores. Kenneth Bibbins leads the Huskies with 297 yards receiving and four touchdowns on 20 catches.

The Husky defense is anchored by linebacker Garrett Dolan who has 62 tackles, five tackles for loss with 2.5 sacks.

Following Saturday's game, Nicholls will return to Thibodaux to face Incarnate Word for Homecoming. Kickoff at John L. Guidry Stadium  on Saturday, Nov. 1 is scheduled for 6 p.m.
