Volleyball to Host Abilene Christian on Tuesday Night

THIBODAUX, La. The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will begin a three-game home stand by hosting Abilene Christian University at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night in Stopher Gymnasium.
 
The Colonels (7-15, 3-6 SLC) are currently on a four-game slide, but played exceptionally better in their most recent action against Houston Baptist University on Saturday.
 
The Wildcats (4-19, 2-8 SLC) dropped their first eight Southland matches, but are on a two-game win-streak heading into Tuesday's match after defeating New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.
 
In their only meeting last season Abilene Christian defeated Nicholls 3-0, but the Colonels are significantly improved this year and hope to turn the tables on the Wildcats Tuesday.
 
Kaci Eaton leads the offensive attack for Nicholls with 313 kills, and is third in the conference in both kills and kills per set (4.17). Eaton is also second on the team in digs with 215. Kalynn Egea bolsters the Colonel defense with a team-high 419 digs this season. Egea is coming off of a 31-dig explosion on Saturday, the third highest single-match total in school history, and moved into first in the Southland in digs per set (5.82). Ainsley Marroccoli paces the squad with 487 assists and Emily Weimer has a team-leading 52 blocks.
 
Jennifer Loerch spearheads the Wildcat offense with 319 kills; while Sarah Siemens has a team-high 613 assists this season. Abilene Christian brings an evenly balanced defensive squad, with five different Wildcats contributing 140 or more digs. Lexi Mercier leads the team with 87 blocks.
 
Nicholls will play three home matches this week, beginning with Abilene Christian on Tuesday before hosting Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and New Orleans at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
