Women’s Volleyball to Battle Lamar on Saturday

THIBODAUX, La. The Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will host Lamar University on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Stopher Gymnasium.

The Colonels (5-11, 1-2 SLC) will look to rebound after a tough loss to Sam Houston State University on Friday. Nicholls took the first set before losing the next three and ceding the victory.

The Cardinals (1-13, 1-1 SLC) are coming off of a 3-2 loss to McNeese on Thursday. Lamar traded sets with McNeese, losing the first set, taking the second, dropping the third, winning the fourth and finally losing the final set 18-16.

Last season the Cardinals defeated the Colonels 3-0 and 3-1 in their only two meetings on the year. Lamar was picked to finish 8th and 9th in the preseason, slightly above Nicholls in both polls, but had struggled through a difficult non-conference schedule.

Kaci Eaton has led the Colonels offensively all season with a team-high 224 kills, and is second on the team in digs with 158. Kalynn Egea has 318 digs this year to lead the squad. Ainsley Marroccoli leads Nicholls with 329 assists and Alyse Barclay has 208. Mikayla Miller and Emily Weimer are tied for a team-leading 36 blocks.

The Cardinals have three players who have registered over 100 kills this season – Courtney Moore (169), Autumn Taylor (163) and Chelsea Grant (118). Erika Rojas, Autumn Taylor and Megan Schwartz lead the team in digs with 121, 119 and 16 respectively. Ashley Ellis has the vast majority of Lamar's assists this season with 525.
