Colonels Take on Wildcats in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas After a tough 3-2 loss to Incarnate Word on Friday night, the Nicholls State University women's volleyball team will look to rebound against Abilene Christian University in the Texas panhandle at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
 
The Colonels (9-17, 5-8 SLC) are currently in eighth place in the Southland Conference and are looking to punch their ticket to the conference tournament with only three games remaining in the regular season.
 
The Wildcats (5-22, 3-10 SLC) are coming off of a 3-1 victory over McNeese State, but have lost three of their last four contests, including a 3-2 loss to Nicholls on Oct. 28.
 
Kaci Eaton leads the Colonels offensively with 385 kills, while Ainsley Marroccoli has a team-leading 601 assists. Kalynn Egea spearheads the Nicholls' defense with 510 digs, and leads the Southland in both digs and digs per set (5.67). Emily Weimer has a team-high 55 blocks this season.
 
Jennifer Loerch leads the Wildcats with 373 kills, while Sarah Seimens paces the squad with 685 assists on the year. Defensively Abilene Christian is balanced, with six players registering 120 or more digs. Lexi Mercier has been dominant this season with 86 blocks, while Neely Borger has 69.
 
Colonels will battle Abilene Christian on Saturday before facing a road-game in Hammond, La. against Southeastern at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
