THIBODAUX, La. –
The Nicholls State University football program concluded its 2014 campaign Tuesday night with its annual awards banquet, held in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union.

In addition to recognizing the senior class and all the members of the 2014 squad, six team awards were handed out along with five Band of Brother awards. The major award winners were Geoffrey Hebert (Academic Award), Keenan Canty (Outstanding Special Teams), Michael Henry (Outstanding Offensive), Byron Cobb (Outstanding Defensive), Davin Bovie (Norman Swanner Memorial Most Valuable Player) and Beaux Hebert (Model Student-Athlete).

Geoffrey Hebert, a redshirt freshman linebacker from Thibodaux, received the team's Academic Award after posting a 4.0 grade point average. Not only does he possess a perfect GPA, but Hebert is a double major in accounting and finance. On the field, he started 11 of 12 games played, finishing with 30 tackles with 0.5 tackles for loss.

Canty, a senior wide receiver/return specialist from New Orleans, made a significant contribution to the team in his lone season with the Colonels. A transfer from the University of Colorado, Canty had 1,085 kick return yards with a 19.7 average while fielding 11 punts for 152 yards and a touchdown. He earned FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a punt 83 yards for a touchdown against Lamar. Canty was also recognized by the Southland Conference as all-purpose honorable mention.

A junior running back from Baton Rouge, Henry earned offensive MVP after rushing for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns, becoming only the third Colonel in program history to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau. Finishing third in the league in rushing at 91.4 yards per game, Henry was named Second Team All-Southland. Against the Southland's top two rushing defenses, which both rank in the Top 20 in the FCS, Henry rushed for a total of 199 yards and averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Henry also finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards, hauling in 28 catches for 253 yards. He led the team with 36 points scored and was second with 114.4 all-purpose yards per game.

Cobb, a senior cornerback from St. Francisville, earned defensive MVP after leading the team with nine passes defended including one interception. Cobb finished 28th in the league in tackles with 70 and ranked 11th in the SLC in passes defended. His best game in the secondary came against Stephen F. Austin where he broke up three passes to go along with six tackles. Cobb also received All-Southland honorable mention.

Bovie, a senior linebacker from Waggaman, was named team MVP after being one of the Southland's top tacklers this season. An All-Southland honorable mention, Bovie racked up 108 tackles on the year, which ranked second in the conference. He did most of his damage alone; ranking 10th in the FCS with 71 solo tackles.

Earning the Model Student-Athlete Award was redshirt senior quarterback Beaux Hebert. On the field, Hebert started three of 11 games played for the Colonels, throwing for 1,090 yards and six touchdowns.

Rounding out the award winners were senior defensive lineman Andrew Carter, senior linebacker Tyler Harrington, junior running back Tobias Lofton, sophomore safety B.T. Sanders and senior right tackle Ryan Zeller – who all received the Band of Brothers Award. The award honors players who displayed the characteristics of being the ideal teammate.
