Coates Garners NSCAA All-Region Honors

THIBODAUX, La. Nearly a month after the 2014 fall soccer season ended, Nicholls State University junior forward Jess Coates continues to receive recognition of her outstanding play, and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region Third Team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Coates becomes the second player in school history to earn All-Region honors, after Spencer Valdespino was named to the All-Central Region Second Team in 2013.

Coates earned a spot on the third team after pacing the Colonels in assists (7) and finishing second on the team in goals (5) and points (17) over the 2014 season. She led Nicholls to its second-consecutive Southland conference tournament berth and first postseason victory in school history.

"It's nice to see Jess continue to receive recognition, not only in our conference but throughout the region," Head Coach Dylan Harrison said. "She has won numerous team awards for all the little things she does to keep our squad going, and after the outstanding year she had for us, it's great to see her hard work is being recognized throughout the state as well."

Coates was also named to the All-Conference First Team at the conclusion of the 2014 regular season after being named to the preseason All-Conference Second-Team. She is fourth all-time in program history for career assists (11) and third all-time in shots per game (1.94), goals per game (0.25), points per game (0.71) and assists per game (0.21).

A total of five Southland Conference student-athletes were named to the NSCAA All-Region team.
