Colonels Breeze Past UNO, 63-45

Final Stats NEW ORLEANS – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team held New Orleans to 15 points and caused 19 turnovers in the first half to help build a 22-point advantage and the Colonels never looked back as they defeated the Privateers, 63-45, Thursday night at Lakefront Arena.

Nicholls (13-10, 8-4) shot just 39 percent in the win, but had 25 points off 28 UNO turnovers. With the loss, the Privateers remain winless for the season, falling to 0-23 overall and 0-12 in conference.

Jenny Nash filled the stat sheet for the Colonels, leading the team with her third double-double of the season – 17 points and 10 rebounds – and added seven steals and six blocks, both career highs. Nash made 6 of 10 from the field, 4 of 6 3-pointers and had four of the Colonels' 16 assists. Also reaching double figures in scoring for the Colonels were New Orleans native Emani White, who finished with 15 points and three assists, and Jasmine Scott had 10 points off the bench.

Nicholls only trailed twice in the contest as UNO led 2-0 and 4-2, but KK Babin sparked a 17-2 run for the Colonels with a 3-pointer that broke a 4-all tie. During the span, Nicholls made three from behind the arc, with Nash and White chipping in with one each. The Colonels finished the game 7 of 16 from 3-point range while UNO was just 4 of 19.

With the score 21-6 Colonels, the teams traded runs over the next six minutes, starting with a 7-0 spurt by UNO. Nash ended the run with a 3-ball, and the Colonels followed with seven straight points to lead 31-13 with 5:22 to go.

Nicholls continued to rely on the deep ball as Elexus Allen made the score 37-15 with a 3-pointer with less than three minutes until intermission. Both offenses went ice cold the rest of the way as neither team scored before the final buzzer of the half.

The Colonels, which came into the game averaging a Southland-best 10.3 steals, surpassed the mark in the first half, grabbing 11 steals. Of the Colonels' 37 first-half points, 19 were a result of Privateers miscues.

After the break, Nicholls led by as much as 24, and never let UNO get closer than 17.

Octavia Wilson led UNO with 12 points while Danielle Davis and Amber Clay added eight each.

Nicholls will wrap up its four-game road swing with a Saturday matchup against rival Southeastern Louisiana. Tipoff at the University Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
