Colonels Host Incarnate Word for Senior Day

THIBODAUX, La. – Seniors KK Babin and Jasmine Scott will suit up for the final time at Stopher Gym as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team will close out its home schedule on Saturday, March 1 against the University of the Incarnate Word, with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

The contest between Nicholls (14-12, 9-6) and Incarnate Word (8-17, 2-10) will be broadcast on KNSU 91.5 FM, and a live video stream is available on Colonels All-Access.

The Colonels are coming off a disappointing loss at home on Thursday, falling 78-62 to conference-newcomer Abilene Christian. The loss all but ended Nicholls' hopes for a regular season championship as the Colonels are three games back of Central Arkansas with three games remaining. The Colonels are tied with McNeese at fourth, but have the tiebreaker after sweeping the Cowgirls, and trail Lamar and Stephen F. Austin by one game.

Nicholls will be looking to bounce back from one of their worst shooting performances of the season in the loss to ACU. The team shot 34 percent for the game after making only 8-of-34 from the field in the second half.

Emani White and Scott accounted for 40 of the Colonels' 62 points in the loss, led by 22 points from White. The sophomore leads the conference in scoring (19.3 ppg) by nearly two points per game. Scott, who ranks 14th in the Southland in field goal percentage (.447), tied her career-high of 18 points by making 8-of-15 from the floor.

In its first season in Southland competition, the Cardinals have a pair of wins in conference, defeating New Orleans and Oral Roberts. UIW was blown out Thursday at Lake Charles, dropping a 92-37 decision to the Cowgirls.

Rose Whitehead and Ifunanya Mora lead the Cardinals in scoring at 12.4 ppg and 11.0, respectively. Mora was the only Cardinal to reach double figures on Thursday, netting 13 points while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.

Before the game, Nicholls will honor seniors Babin and Scott. Babin currently ranks third on the Colonels' all-time scoring list with 1,429 points, second in assists (462) and third in steals (232). In her two seasons, Scott has scored 483 points for an 8.6 average and has helped Nicholls to 33 wins in the last two campaigns.
