Emani White recorded her second 30-point game of the season in Nicholls' double OT win at SFA

Emani White's last-second 30-footer sent the game into overtime, the sophomore came through again in double overtime with the game-winning jumper with 5.8 seconds left and senior
Jasmine Scott swatted away Stephen F. Austin's final shot as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team defeated the Ladyjacks, 75-74, at Johnson Coliseum on Thursday night.
The win was the Colonels fifth consecutive victory, improving their overall record to 12-9 and 7-3 in the Southland. Nicholls remains a game behind Central Arkansas, who defeated Southeastern Louisiana tonight.
White was one of four Colonels to reach double figures, finishing with a game-high 30 points. No points were as important as her desperation 3-pointer to keep the Colonels' alive at the end of regulation. Following free throws by Porsha Roberts, who led SFA (12-10, 6-4) with 16 points, the Colonels found themselves down 60-57 with 22 seconds left in regulation. With time running out, White launched a deep 3-pointer and drained it, sending the game into its first overtime.
In the first extra period, SFA took command early with four points, but Scott cut the deficit in half midway through before
KK Babin and
Jenny Nash knocked down 3-pointers to give Nicholls a 68-66 lead with 58 seconds left. SFA tied it up on a bucket by Taylor Ross, and a 3 by Tierany Henderson was off the mark as time expired.
Halfway through the second OT, Nicholls found itself up 72-70 but Henderson dialed in from long range to give SFA a one-point lead. White tied the game with 1 of 2 free throws, and SFA went up 74-73 with one from the charity stripe with 22 seconds left. With the clock winding down, White pulled up for a jumper just inside the free throw line, knocking it down with 5.8 seconds on the clock.
Down one, SFA's Kali Jerrell fired a 3-pointer for the win, but Scott swatted the shot out of bounds. After review, the officials put 0.2 seconds on the clock; however, SFA was unable to get off a shot as Nicholls escaped with the win.
White made 11 of 22 from the field as Nicholls finished at 41.8 percent. She also had a game-high five assists and played all 50 minutes. Babin went the distance for Nicholls as well, scoring 15 point with three 3-pointers while Scott and
Jenny Nash added 10 points each.
Nicholls managed to have only nine turnovers in the win, which played a big part in the Colonels' 29-24 lead at half time. The Red and Gray outscored SFA in points off turnovers, 14-0, before the break and finished with a 22-2 advantage for the game.
But looking to defend their home court, the Ladyjacks battled back to take their first lead of the night, 47-46, at the 8:23 mark in the second half. The rest of the way, the teams went back-and-forth, with
Taylor Morrison and Babin hitting clutch 3-pointers down the stretch for the Colonels.
Nicholls saw its last lead in regulation on a Nash jumper with 2:21 remaining. Nash led the Colonels with eight rebounds, but SFA crushed Nicholls on the boards, 56-31.
The Colonels record 16 steals, and
Marina Lilly and Scott added three blocks each. Lilly and Morrison both added five points as Nicholls had only six players crack the scoring column.
SFA finished at 38 percent from the field and matched the Colonels with eight 3-pointers.
Nicholls will wrap up the weekend with a 1 p.m. game at Northwestern State on Saturday. KNSU 91.5 FM will air the game live, with pregame coverage scheduled to begin 15 minutes prior to tipoff.
