Colonels’ Winning Streak Halted By Lady Demons, 76-60

Final Stats NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team found itself down 20 points at the half after Northwestern State came out red-hot and the Colonels were unable to make a serious run as Nicholls saw its five-game winning streak snapped with a 76-60 loss Saturday at Prather Coliseum.

Nicholls (12-10, 7-4) never led in the contest as Northwestern State (13-10, 6-5) jumped out to a 9-0 lead. The Lady Demons shot a blistering 64 percent in the first half, helped by 7 of 11 3-pointers, to go into the locker room up 42-22. The Colonels fared better in the second half by cutting the deficit to 14 late, but could never get any closer.

Jenny Nash led a trio of Colonels in double figures, scoring a team-high 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting. KK Babin added 13 points and Emani White finished with 11 while Marina Lilly and Jasmine Scott chipped in with seven points each.

The Colonels were held to 37 percent from the floor, making only 6-of-21 3-pointers. Nicholls had only one from long range in the first half before finding its rhythm in the second.

Northwestern State made 10 of its first 13 shots on the day, finishing at 47 percent in the game. Chelsea Rogers and Trudy Armstrong had a game-high 18 points apiece, and Janelle Perez tacked on 14.

After NSU's initial surge, the Colonels made the score 12-6 on a Nash jumper five minutes in, but the Lady Demons went on another 9-0 run and led 26-10 at the midway point of the first.

The lead grew to 48-23 early in the second before Nash capped a Colonel 8-0 with a 3-pointer, but Rogers quickly pushed the deficit back to over 20 with back-to-back long balls. The rest of the way, the Colonels were never able to pose a serious threat as Nicholls fell short of a program-record six-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the Colonels continued to take care of the orange, finishing with 11 turnovers. But the rebounding woes also remained as NSU held a 43-27 edge on the glass.

Nicholls will complete its four-game road swing with matchups against New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana next week. The Colonels take on UNO on Thursday, Feb. 13 before facing the Lady Lions on Saturday. Nicholls defeated UNO 89-40 and Southeastern 84-55 in the previous meetings this season.
