Emani White's 22 second-half points, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team exploded for 52 points in the final 20 minutes to erase an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Incarnate Word 76-64 on Senior Day at Stopher Gym.
White, the Southland's leading scorer at 19.7 ppg, finished with a game-high 29 points to set the Colonels' single-season record for points with 532. Junior
Jenny Nash also had a big second half, scoring 12 of her 15 points after the break, and senior
KK Babin closed out her remarkable career at Stopher with 13 points and seven assists.
Nicholls (15-12, 10-6) shot just 31 percent in the first half before scorching the nets for a 60.7 percent clip in the second period. The Colonels also made 16 free throws in the final stanza, making 19-of-24 for the game.
Incarnate Word (8-18, 2-11) took command before the intermission, ending the half on a 14-2 run. But the Colonels came out firing in the second; quickly tying the game at 34-34 after just 2:23 ran off the clock.
Nash broke a 44-all tie with a layup at the 13:09 mark, leading to a small 6-0 run. With just over six minutes remaining, White gave Nicholls its first double-digit lead after a basket-and-one at 62-51.
The Colonel lead swelled to 14 points on three different occasions down the stretch as Nicholls improved its home record to 10-2.
UIW was led by Rose Whitehead with 15 points, and Ifunanya Mora had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Nicholls will close out the regular season with road games at Houston Baptist and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Thursday's matchup at HBU is scheduled for 5 p.m.
