BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team faced a familiar opponent on Friday as the Colonels defeated Texas Pan-American in a close 4-3 decision at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.

Nicholls (8-6) took two out of three in doubles to claim the point before splitting singles with the Broncs (3-10), who competed in the Southland in men's tennis up until this season.

The Colonels lost the No. 1 match in doubles, but Kieran Cronin / Lukas Clemens  and Partha Adavelly/ Bernard Wezeman went on to win 8-4 on the No. 2 and 3 courts, respectively.

In singles, Clemens picked up a three-set win over Chetan Panditi 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 on the No. 2 court, and Sam Meessen blanked Mauricio Fosado in the first set of the No. 4 match before taking the second by a score of 6-2. Cronin rounded out the winners for the Colonels, defeating Alejandro Sanoja 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.

The Colonels will return to action on Sunday night at LSU. First serve in Baton Rouge is scheduled for 6 p.m.
