THIBODAUX, La. – After a hard-fought loss for the doubles point, the Nicholls State university women's tennis team dominated singles play by winning five matches to defeat Lamar University 5-2 on Saturday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls improves to 8-4, 2-1 SLC on the year while Lamar falls to 3-6, 1-2 SLC. The Colonels were scheduled to play Sam Houston on Sunday, but the match has been postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Kateryna Nakonechna and Marie Aubert was the winning duo in doubles, taking the No. 3 match 8-7. But Lamar would claim the point after winning on the No. 1 and 2 courts by the same score.

In the No. 2 match in singles, Aubert picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carlina Maso. Klara Skopac blanked Hanna Elfving in the first set of the No. 4 match before winning 6-2 in the second. Emma Kranendonk rounded out the straight-set winners for the Colonels with a 6-2, 6-3 win on the No. 6 court.

Stephanie Barnett outlasted Dariya Dashutina in the No. 1 match, bouncing back from a 5-7 loss with 6-4, 6-2 wins. On the No. 5 court, Isla Brock also came back from a first-set loss, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.

The Colonels return to the courts next weekend at Central Arkansas on March 23. First serve in Conway is scheduled for 10 a.m.
