THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's tennis team remained undefeated in Southland Conference play as the Colonels upended Incarnate Word, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

With the win, Nicholls improves to 10-8 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. UIW, which is in its first season in the Southland, falls to 9-4 and 0-2.

Nicholls took the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and 3 matches 8-4. Partha Adavelly, Nico Mertens, Bernard Wezeman and Kieran Cronin were all victorious in singles to give Nicholls its third win of the season.

In the top of the singles lineup, Adavelly won both of his sets 6-4 over Jair Assuncao, while Mertens won on the No. 2 court 6-2, 6-0 over Leonard Ivic. Clemens dropped his match at No. 3 to Josip Smolijan, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 4, Bernard Wezeman stayed undefeated in conference with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tucker Brown. Sam Meessen fell on the No. 5 court, and Kieran Cronin rounded out the winners with a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

Nicholls will return to the courts on April 4 at Lamar. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
