THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team continued its impressive play as the Colonels defeated Southland Conference newcomer Incarnate Word, 7-0, for their fifth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls has not lost since its conference opener and now stands at 4-1 in Southland play. On the year, the Colonels improve to 10-4 while Incarnate Word drops to 2-12, 0-5.

The Colonels breezed through doubles play, winning 8-1 on the No. 3 court before winning 8-2 at No. 1. Marie Aubert/ Kateryna Nakonechna made easy work of Taryn Strahl/ Brianah Creek at No. 3, and Stephanie Barnett/ Isla Brock defeated Ivana Katavic/ Andi Botha.

In singles play, Aubert had a flawless win on the No. 2 court, shutting out Sarah Savedra in straight sets. Barnett, who is ranked No. 102 in the ITA, also picked up a shutout win in her second set at No. 1 after winning 6-4 in her first set. Isla Brock won her first 6-0 against Strahl on the No. 5 court before winning on retirement.

On the No. 3 court, Nakonechna outsted Jennifer Bentancourt 7-5, 6-2. The No. 6 match was given to Nicholls by default.

The Colonels will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Islanders come into the match with a 4-1 mark in SLC play.
