Colonels Close Out Regular Season at A&M-Corpus Christi

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will go for a program-record 12th Southland Conference victory in its regular season finale at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, scheduled for 12 p.m. on Saturday at American Bank Center.

The game will be broadcast on KNSU 91.5 FM, with pregame coverage set for 11:45 a.m.

Nicholls is coming off a 73-69 win over Houston Baptist on Thursday, led by guards Emani White, Jenny Nash and KK Babin. White maintained her lead as the Southland's top scorer, netting 14 points for a 19.5 point per game average. Nash scored 13 points with three 3-pointers and Babin had a double-double with 12 points, 10 assists and added eight rebounds.

The win improved Nicholls' record to 16-12 overall and 11-6 in conference, which matches its program-record for wins in the Southland, set in two different seasons. The Colonels enter the game as the No. 4 seed in the standings, but could finish as high as No. 3 with a win. If they lose Saturday to the Islanders (17-11, 10-7), the Colonels could finish as low as No. 5 and have to play in the opening round on Thursday.

The Islanders head into the matchup on a seven-game winning streak after their 74-69 win over McNeese on Thursday. Shola Adebayo paced Corpus Christi with 18 points to lead four players in double figures. A&M-Corpus Christi's last loss came on Feb. 1 in an 87-72 setback at Lamar. The Islanders are also in the tournament and can finish anywhere from No. 5 through 7.

Nicholls took the earlier matchup between the teams in Thibodaux, 67-60, after scoring the game's final seven points.  White led the way with 18 points, while Brittany Mbamalu made seven 3-pointers for the Islanders for a game-high 23 points.

The Southland Conference Tournament will start next week on Thursday at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. For tickets, please call the Nicholls Athletics Ticket Office at 985-448-4790.
