Kalen Henderson had two touchdown passes in the Colonels' final scrimmage of the spring
Interview with Coach StubbsInterview with quarterback Kalen HendersonTHIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University football team wrapped up its spring practice with its annual Spring Scrimmage and the Colonel quarterbacks stole the show as
Tuskani Figaro,
Beaux Hebert and
Kalen Henderson combined for 500 yards passing and seven touchdowns Saturday morning at John L. Guidry Stadium.
Hebert led the way with 247 yards and four touchdowns on 11 of 13 passing, and even added a 54-yard scamper for a score in the first session of the scrimmage. Henderson completed 11 of 15 passes for 187 yards and two TDs, while Figaro connected on 7 of 8 for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Hebert started off the scoring for the Colonels with a 54-yard strike to Jamiah Nelson down the middle of the field. He then connected with running back
Joshua Johnson for a pair of 16-yard touchdowns before finding wide receiver
Demon Bolt in the back of the end zone for a 28-yard TD.
Henderson provided the second long bomb for the Colonels, hitting Terry Lucas for a 54-yard score. The duo connected once again in the red zone plays as Lucas made an outstanding leaping grab for an 11-yard touchdown.
Figaro's lone touchdown came in the red zone on a 6-yard pass to running back
Michael Henry. Earlier in the day, Henry took a short pass and rumbled 49 yards before being knocked out of bounds inside the 5. Henry scored one rushing touchdown from six yards out, and had a long rush of 13 on the day.
Although the defense had problems stopping the passing game, the squad did a decent job of limiting the damage on the ground.
Josh Dewey came up with the defense's only turnover of the day, stripping Johnson which led to a fumble recovery by defensive lineman Imajee Conner.
On special teams,
Conner Fryoux started things off with a 24-yard field goal, and Ryan Domangue made one from 27 yards. But the kickers struggled the rest of the way as they would miss on their final four attempts.
Nicholls will officially finish its spring on Monday evening with a special teams practice. The Colonels open their 2014 campaign on Aug. 30 at Air Force. For season ticket information, please call the Nicholls Athletic Ticket Office and 985-448-4790.
